England Lost and It Actually Sucks

Yesterday, England lost in the the World Cup semis to Croatia and I am heartbroken.  This is just textbook English football in the World Cup at this point and usually I would laugh at their misfortune like I did at Joe Hart's howler in 2010:
They have been snake bit at the World Cup since 1966.  For a country that cares so much about soccer like they do, it is kinda funny.  The reason this year is different, however, is that IT WAS COMING HOME.  If you haven't heard the song, it is below:

This song came out in 2006 for the World Cup that year, a song of hope after all of England's failures.  Tell me you don't watch that video and immediately want to root for England.  This year, I think every Englishman believed it was coming home.  Watching the video after the loss, I dang near want to cry and I became a fan of English soccer for about two weeks.  I can only imagine how the English feel.

It is even worse that they essentially blew the game.  They dominated the first half, pubs everywhere going ballistic after Trippier's free kick goal:
They should have been up 2-0 after Harry Kane squandered a great chance from about 7 yards.  Then they fell apart in the second half and extra time, and Croatia ran all over them until the full time whistle.

I'm not a Croatia hater, I like a few of their players, but I am pissed they are in the final.  Not only would England winning the World Cup be awesome and emotional in a way only sports can deliver, we would get a World Cup final that would be a rematch of one of Western civilizations greatest rivalries.  The Norman conquest, 100 years War, so much history there.  England v. France in the final would have been a fantastic ending to the best World Cup in my lifetime, but now I am just sad.  It's not coming home.
