Welcome to the official blog of Stockitchen. Whether you are a long time follower or new to the firm, allow us to reintroduce ourselves. What is Stockitchen? Many have asked, and there is no one sure answer. Over the years we have morphed from a small investment group to a conglomerate with ties to various sectors. We have conquered the spinoff beverage game with Rootbeer Squared. Disrupted the nutrition instagram world with HoneyyyGraham. Dominated the virtual urban bodega market with J/G Minimart. It is only natural that we now move to the blog space.

What will this blog be? The Stockitchen blog will be where you can read the opinions, takes, analysis, and commentary of Stockitchen's founders and contributors. It will have no set focus, and the content is up to the contributors. It may be funny. It may be serious. It may be downright scholarly. Hopefully all entertaining, and if you aren't we will be.

Starbucks Takes Advantage of Turtles

Today Starbucks announced that they will not be serving straws in their beverages anymore, instead opting for an eco-friendly lid, with a sippy cup style mouthpiece. This change comes as in response to the growing movement to keep plastic trash out of the ocean, and specifically to save sea turtles. Starbucks is full of sh*t. Don’t interpret my take the wrong way, however. I have no qualms with removing the straws from beverages. I’m also sure that it does help in the movement to keep plastic waste out of the oceans. I don’t think that Starbucks really cares that much at all about this movement though. Starbucks sells nearly 3 billion drinks a year. Figure about half of those are iced beverages served with a straw and you have 4.1 million straws served per day. Sourcing straws at $1.59/box of 500 (rate according to www.webstaurantstore.com), Starbucks has just saved themselves $12,700 per day simply at the cost of changing the di used to cut the lids out at the factory...

Power Ranking Cups of Coffee

Some may know that Stockitchen's partners are huge coffee people and I am certainly to be counted amongst those ranks.  Since coffee continues to be a focus for us, I thought I would write a blog power ranking my favorite cups of coffee.  Let's get into it: 5.  Any coffee with some sort of personal name in the blend name. Major Dickason's Blend is my favorite mass-market coffee, from Peet's Coffee. It is a damn good coffee but it has an even better name.  I don't even know who the Major (is he even real) is but he sounds pretty cool so I love to be associated.  Sir Shackleton's Stout is maybe the very best whole bean coffee I have ever purchased.  It is from Moka Joe, a roaster out of Anacortes, Washington. Phenomenal coffee.  The moral of the story is I have never been led astray by a coffee named after a person, real or fictional. 4.  Coffee from a Polish mug. Quote of the Day is a new blog series I am hoping to put out frequently with some of my favorite quotes and lines from movies, TV, literature, music, and other things.  Everybody loves a good quote and I hope to post a mixture of funny and serious quotes with my thoughts as well.  No promises on the frequency. Quote: "Maybe. Maybe not. Maybe fuck yourself." LINK TO SCENE Today's quote is from the movie The Departed, spoken by Dignam, who is played by Mark Wahlberg.  It is an absolutely classic line from one of if not my all time favorite movie.  The movie is chock full of memorable characters, and Dignam is certainly one.  This line sticks in my memory because it defines his character in only six words spoken in retort.  I appreciate the simplicity of his character amidst the incredibly dynamic nature of DiCaprio and Damon's roles.  He is just a guy who comes across as a dick, but has sound morals.
